After a year and a half of reconstruction, the renovated border crossing Bajmok-Bachalmash, one of the six crossings with Hungary, was put into operation today. 2.1 million euros have been invested in its renovation, of which as much as 1.8 million are from the pre-accession funds of the European Union. The border crossing is open from 7 am to 7 pm, and there is a possibility that in the future it will have working hours 24/7.
The reconstruction was financed from the pre-accession funds of the European Union, 1.8 million euros, and about 300,000 euros were provided through national co-financing.
– Passengers will benefit the most from the new crossing, because in the season when their number is the largest, this crossing will be a good road alternative – said the Minister of Finance, Siniša Mali. – On average, 700 cars pass through the “Bajmok” crossing every day, but now we expect a significant increase in the number of vehicles because this road will reach some European capitals the fastest, such as Vienna.
Today, the modernized border crossing was visited by the Minister of Finance Siniša Mali and Sam Fabrizi, the head of the EU delegation in Serbia.
– This is another example of successful cooperation between our country and the European Union. The project lasted 18 months and the facilities were made to the highest standards, providing the best possible conditions for the work of border and other services. I especially like that there is a special lane and a special facility for the passage of buses – Minister Siniša Mali pointed out. – I am sure that this border crossing, considering that it is located 50 kilometers from Horgos and 30 kilometers from Kelebija, especially in the summer months, will have a significant impact on relieving those two border crossings and speeding up the flow of goods, people and service between Hungary and Serbia. If you look at what this border crossing used to look like, you will see how much Serbia is changing and how much it has changed, and how we are on a good path of improving relations with the EU and improving infrastructure. The border crossing Gostun, Sot and Kotroman is also being renovated.
